The older neighborhoods closer to the Choptank tend toward heavier, poorly-drained soils with high clay content that compact easily under foot and equipment traffic. Drainage is a real issue in low spots. Turf in these areas benefits from core aeration, proper fertility timing, and weed control programs that account for the stress periods these soils create.

Moving east and north away from the river, soils are lighter and better-drained, more forgiving for turf management, and more responsive to standard fertilization programs. Our MDA-licensed programs are calibrated by zone — we’re not applying the same program to a Glenburn property that we’d apply to a lot on the Choptank edge.

Waterfront and Choptank River Properties

The Cambridge waterfront along the Choptank is some of the most dynamic property on the Shore right now.
