Deal Island, Maryland

Deal Island is a remote Somerset County community accessible by a single causeway off Route 363, surrounded by the tidal marshes and open water of Tangier Sound. The island and the adjacent community of Chance make up one of the Shore’s few remaining working waterman communities — skipjacks, crab boats, and the infrastructure of the bay trade are still part of daily life here. The landscape is almost entirely tidal marsh, and the properties that exist on the island sit close to the water on both sides.

The soils are saturated much of the year, salt marsh encroaches on every edge, and the combination of wind, tidal flooding, and insect pressure creates maintenance challenges that standard residential contractors aren’t equipped to handle. Our licensed herbicide programs, combined with mechanical clearing and follow-up treatment, are designed for exactly these conditions.

Mosquito and Biting Insect Pressure

Surrounded by tidal marsh, Deal Island has some of the most intense mosquito pressure on the Shore from late spring through early fall. A well-targeted treatment program applied to the upland perimeter and structure surrounds makes outdoor use of these properties genuinely possible during warm months.
